A Social Skills Weekend for Special Needs Teens

Social Skills Weekend Arrives in Atlanta

Summit Camp’s Atlanta Area Director, Brontie’ Swanston, is excited to announce that plans are set for Summit’s Weekender activity program, for the weekend of February 8-10, 2013. Designed for students ages 11-18, it is an event that provides guided recreation and social skills reinforcement.

Brontie’ said  the program serves students who have been identified with ADD/ADHD, Asperger syndrome, mild learning disabilities, and other issues related to high functioning autism. “Most often the most difficult time for these kids, are those times of limited structure, like a weekend. We take the greatest parts of a camp like experience, carefully include guides social skills activities,  provide a skilled staff, and have designed an event that will be seen as fun and safe,” shared Brontie’.

Summit Camp has been working with special children since 1969. The Weekender Program is the school year extension of support and enhancement to children who might otherwise not find social success. The Weekender event will take place at Camp Twin Lakes, in Rutledge, GA. It is fully winterized and has space for dining, recreation, and lodging.  Participants will join us after dinner on Friday and will depart after lunch on Sunday. The cost for the full Weekender is $ 400 per child.

Brontie, Summit’s area director, has been a general and special educator for more than 5 years and has had numerous experiences in formal and informal settings. Participants, according to her, should look forward to an enjoyable weekend. She also noted that such an event provides much needed respite for the student’s family.
