Book Signing Event to Take Place at Waterworks Atlanta, with Historical Concepts’ Jim Strickland
Jim Strickland, founder and president with Historical Concepts, an Atlanta and Peachtree City, Ga., architecture firm famous for southern vernacular architecture with historic precedent, will sign purchased copies of the firm’s new book entitled, Coming Home: The Southern Vernacular House at the Waterworks Atlanta showroom. The event will take place Dec. 5, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST during the showroom’s holiday gathering. Waterworks is a leading luxury brand for the bath and kitchen with a product assortment that offers the complete experience from faucets and tubs to towels and apothecary.
Strickland will answer attendee questions during the book signing event about how to continue Georgia architectural traditions, while simultaneously designing and building homes that accommodate the needs of 21st century homeowners. He will also answer questions about how Historical Concepts’ partners collaborated to co-author the book, which makes for a beautiful holiday gift. Andrew Cogar, one of the firm’s partners and a co-author of the book will also participate in the book signing event.
Attendance will be free for the public, and books may be purchased on site and signed upon request. Proceeds of the book sales will be donated to DIFFA, a design foundation dedicated to fighting AIDS.
Coming Home: The Southern Vernacular House, was published by Rizzoli in March 2012. Each home pictured and described in the book showcases meticulously designed exteriors and interiors with unified elements, resulting in a display of homes that are aesthetically pleasing from all vantage points and floor plans that reflect the various homeowners’ lifestyles. The book’s chapters provide a look at homes and communities that pay homage to America’s architectural heritage and the South’s thematic style.
For nearly thirty years, Historical Concepts has designed country houses, mountain retreats, and coastal cottages that showcase the South’s deep sense of place. Whether drawing from the refined residences of Charleston and Savannah; the rural farmhouses and rustic cabins in the Blue Ridge Mountains; or historic houses in and around Atlanta, the firm specializes in award-winning, regional architecture and design. Capturing the spirit and essence of southern-style, each of the book’s showcased homes represents today’s relaxed lifestyle and offers insight about blending elements of Classical design with southern charm.
