Region 5A head coaches have named seven members of the Pace Academy varsity softball team to All-Region 5A teams. Three members of the Knights’ squad were selected for the All-Region 5A First Team, while four were named All-Region 5A Second Team. This season, the Knights advanced to the GHSA Elite Eight State Championships for the first time in school history.
Senior shortstop Amber Easley earned First-Team honors for the fourth consecutive year, capping off an outstanding Pace career. Joining Easley on the First Team were sophomores Lane Dikeman and Lauren Hadley. Dikeman led the Knights in the circle, pitching Pace to 14 of its 17 victories. Hadley, who hit atop the Knights’ lineup for most of the season, led Pace in nearly every offensive category.
Named to the All-Region 5A Second Team were senior catcher Lindsey Zwecker, who will play at Dickenson College in 2013; sophomore outfielder Nora Harlin, who led the Knights with a .474 batting average with runners in scoring position and a perfect fielding percentage; sophomore Maryellen Malone, who played five defensive positions for the Knights; and freshman designated player Sarah Werner, who was a key fixture in the Knights’ offensive attack, which averaged 6.4 runs a game.
