Nicholas Bowden to perform Organ Recital on October 30th at Peachtree Presbyterian Church
NATIONALLY PROMINENT ORGANIST TO SHINE DURING A RECITAL FILLED WITH HIS OWN BRAND OF WIT AND MUSICAL MASTERY
On Tuesday, October 30th, Nicholas Bowden, longtime Principal Organist of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, will present a recital at 7:00pm in the church’s Main Sanctuary that is certain to feature several challenging pieces mixed with a wink and a smile. This is his second recital at the church since joining its staff as Principal Organist in 1993.
A respected figure in the professional music scene of Atlanta since 1991, Nicholas Bowden is highly regarded for his ability to connect capacity and need through music. His energetic style and virtuosic playing, coupled with a sparkling stage presence and sense of humor, make his concerts unique in the organ world. Mr. Bowden is, in fact, recognized as one of a handful of concert organists in the world who regularly bring a “niche” medium of music to great numbers of people; having performed at major venues in 31 states and six countries. In July 2012, Bowden was the featured artist at a concert at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, CA and received rave reviews by numerous Bay Area media. He has also been a featured performer at the prestigious “Wannamaker Organ Day” at Macy’s Department Store in Philadelphia, PA.
Mr. Bowden’s late October performance is set to present numerous dynamic compositions including Mozart’s Fantasia in f minor, K. 608 (Dupré transcription), Prelude and Fugue in d minor by J.S. Bach, Sketch in f minor, Op. 58 No. 3 by Schumann, Bovet’s Hamburger Totentanz and other entertaining selections.
“In almost 20 years as the organist at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, this is only the second time I have done a solo recital. I have played about 20 concerts a year all across the country, and it is a great privilege to be playing a concert at my own church” states Mr. Bowden. “This church is home to me; these people are my dearest friends and my greatest critics. They know me better than anyone. They know when I’m on my toes and when I’m not. These are life-long friends who understand that the only “performing” being done here is for an audience of one, the Lord God Almighty” adds Bowden.
According to Nicholas Bowden, the Schilicker organ in the Main Sanctuary of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, with a console designed by the Allen Organ Company, is a true treasure. “The organ is the largest hybrid instrument (using both pipes and digital sounds) in the southeastern U.S. with 5 manuals and 188 ranks. This concert program will include a people-friendly choice of music which will make use of the full tonal resources of this unique and versatile instrument.”
The recital is open to the public and free to all who wish to attend.
