State House District 56 candidate Ken Britt - election night party
Ken Britt, a long-time community and political leader and executive who is seeking the State House District 56 of retiring Rep. Kathy Ashe, has announced an election night party to be held at 5 Seasons Westside Tuesday, July 31, beginning at 7 p.m.
District 56 includes parts of south Buckhead, including Piedmont Heights and Ansley Park.
“It will be wonderful to gather with supporters from across this great district and watch the election results come in,” Britt says. “So many people have worked hard on this campaign. I am proud of and humbled by their efforts, and look forward to the opportunity to say ‘thank you.’”
Britt launched his campaign in April on the heels of long-time District 56 incumbent Rep. Kathy Ashe announcing she would not seek re-election. Rep. Ashe has endorsed Britt, as have the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 613, Planned Parenthood Southeast, the Atlanta and North Georgia Building and Construction Trades Council, the Human Rights Campaign, Georgia Equality, the Victory Fund, the Atlanta Stonewall Democrats, Rep. Karla Drenner, Councilperson Alex Wan and Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner.
“This race has been a sprint,” says Britt, who took early retirement as the Executive Director of law firm Alston & Bird, “but it has been invigorating. When the results are tallied on July 31, I hope to have the opportunity to follow in Rep. Ashe’s footsteps and serve the people of this diverse district in the Georgia House of Representatives. This would be a natural next step for me given my lifelong engagement in community service.”
5 Seasons (www.5seasonsbrewing.com) is located at 1000 Marietta Street, at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Marietta Street. Street parking is available as well as a parking deck on top of the building. The campaign will provide appetizers and ongoing election results; a cash bar will be available.
