Vinson will share the process of setting up a government structure, as it relates to the new City of Brookhaven.
Benjamin J. Vinson of McKenna Long & Aldridge, Government Affairs practice group will be the featured speaker at the Buckhead Business Association Weekly Breakfast on Thursday. Vinson, who was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to chair the five-member Brookhaven Commission, will discuss the process of setting up a government structure, as it relates to the new City of Brookhaven.
“Ben Vinson played an integral role in getting the City of Brookhaven up-and-running,” notes Brian Daughdrill, 2013 President of the BBA. “It is a very unique experience to get to oversee the formation of a city from the ground up, and we are very excited for Mr. Vinson to share his perspective on this newly formed city, and Buckhead neighbor, Brookhaven.”
Vinson is a member of the Government Affairs practice group with McKenna Long & Aldridge. He focuses primarily on state and local issues, with a concentration in campaign and election law, economic development, and legislative action. Prior to joining MLA, Vinson served as Counsel to the Majority Caucus in the Georgia House of Representatives. In that capacity, he assisted the Speaker and other members of House Leadership by researching proposed law, drafting legislation and providing advice on various political issues.
Following law school, Vinson clerked for Judge W. Brevard Hand of the United States District Court, Southern District of Alabama. During law school, Mr. Vinson was an Articles Editor and a member of the Editorial Board of the Georgia Law Review. He also participated in externships with several Superior Court judges of the Western Judicial Circuit.
Vinson was recently elected chairman of the Georgia Immigration Enforcement Review Board, a seven-member panel appointed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. In 2010, he was recognized on JAMES Magazine's listing of Georgia's "Rising Stars". Vinson is a frequent speaker on the topic of charter school issues and appeared on a panel to discuss charter school legislation and litigation at the National Charter Schools Conference in 2011.
