Belinfante Announces Senate Candidacy

Republican to run against District 6 Democratic incumbent Doug Stoner

As expected, Sandy Springs attorney Josh Belinfante has announced his candidacy for State Senate District 6, which now includes Buckhead.

Belinfante is running for the seat held by incumbent Sen. Doug Stoner of Cobb County. The district, which also includes Sandy Springs, Smyrna and Vinings, was recently redrawn in the General Assembly's special redistricting session. The election will be in 2012.

A Republican, Belinfante served as Gov. Sonny Perdue's legal counsel and recently resigned from the State Ethics Commission to consider running for the Senate seat.

“After many hours of prayer and consideration with family, friends and members of the community, I have decided to run for the new Georgia State Senate seat in District 6, representing portions of Cobb and Fulton Counties,” Belinfante said in a news release.

“ I have long held a desire to continue my role in public service. As Gov. Sonny Perdue’s legal counsel and a member of the Georgia State Ethics Commission, I strived for accountability and results for the people of Georgia. Now, I look to continue achieving results by improving our neighborhoods and remaining accountable to the best interests of this district.

“From my birth at Northside Hospital, through my experiences living and working in Buckhead, Sandy Springs and Smyrna, I have always called this district home. I know the issues we face in today’s world.  The state of the economy and challenges in finding a job are the top issues on everyone’s mind. I want to be at the table representing my community when those issues are discussed.”

Belinfante and his wife, Karina, have two children, Cole and Ian. After graduating from , he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. He is a partner at RobbinsFreed in Atlanta.
