Buckhead Losing Cafe' Intermezzo to Midtown

The Buckhead cafe' has been open for almost 25 years and will relocate to 12th & Midtown in November.

The 12th & Midtown development team officially announced Tuesday that Café Intermezzo will soon bring its European flair to the $2 billion mixed-use development project on the Midtown Mile.

It had been reported by several media outlets last summer that Café Intermezzo was eyeing a Midtown location. Undisclosed until Tuesday was that the new Café Intermezzo locale will replace the Brookwood location in Buckhead that has been open for almost 25 years.

The Atlanta-based European coffeehouse will close its Brookwood doors at 1845 Peachtree Road in November when it reopens at 12th & Midtown and joins STK, Asselina Cucina, Ri Ra Irish Pub, RA Sushi, Mi Cocina and Piola at the mixed-use development.

"Café Intermezzo has long been considered a landmark destination in Atlanta and we feel privileged to bring them to 12th & Midtown,’’ said Shirley Gouffon, senior vice president of Selig Enterprises, in a release. “Occupying a marquis corner adjacent to Loews Atlanta Hotel, Café Intermezzo will be a dynamic and exciting addition to 12th & Midtown."

Brian Olson opened the first Café Intermezzo in Dunwoody in 1979. The Brookwood Café Intermezzo opened its doors in December 1987 and quickly became a place where many couples enjoyed their first date in the casual environment.

Café Intermezzo offers more than 100 different tortes, tarts, cakes, pies and cheesecakes; scores of coffee beverages and other beverages with and without alcohol.

Kevin Creel, managing principal with CRESA Partners represented the tenant in this transaction.

Many local couples had their first date at Intermezzo, high school kids come here for prom and young professionals consider it the ideal place for a quality meal. Got any thoughts about Cafe' Intermezzo?

It is a great spot for birthday celebrations and friends meeting. My relatives love to come here when they visit from out of town. my nephew calls it the "Cake Place"

I was thrilled when I heard C.I. was opening at 12th and Midtown. Then I was saddened when I realized that the move meant the Brookwood location was closing. I guess I wanted to have my cake and eat it too.

Good luck to CI in their move. I fondly recall working with the Olson's in the original Perimeter location when I was in HS and college in the early '80s. CI was I believe the first Atlanta establishment that offered European coffee drinks, exotic bakery items and beers. It certainly helped shape my tastes for lattes and craft beers!

Unfortunately they will lose many people as customers now. i am not fond of the Midtown area over going here for dessert after dinner. 12th and Midtown does not have a neighborhood vibe as well as other issues with the area...

Fingers, 12th and Midtown is one of the ONLY areas of Atlanta with a true urban neighborhood vibe....certainly more so than the Brookwood location. I actually just left there, and it was PACKED. Midtown is perfect for this, and business will simply boom.
