Buckhead Resident Announces District 6 Candidacy

Businessman Drew Ellenburg joins Republican field

Buckhead resident Drew Ellenburg, a conservative businessman, Tuesday announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for the District 6 State Senate Seat.

In a statement in his campaign web page, Ellenburg cited his business background, saying, "I am not a politician and proud of it."

Ellenburg said, "Due to my business experience, I believe that individuals make better choices for their businesses and families than government — and I believe that spending less than you take in is the only responsible way to govern and create jobs for our state.

"That’s the kind of experience and leadership we need in Atlanta. We need a conservative businessman in the State Senate who has skin in the game that can turn this state around. I believe I can make a real difference for our families."

Ellenburg joins , and in the GOP field seeking the nomination to face Democratic incumbent Doug Stoner in the district, redrawn during reapportionment to include Buckhead and Sandy Springs along with Smyra and Vinings. The election will be held in 2012.

According to his campaign biography, Ellenburg started Ellenburg Chair Co., a furniture manufacturing operation, in Smyrna in 1998. After selling the business, he began a furniture repping firm for Furniture Manufacturers across the United States. "Drew only represents furniture made right here in America," the biography says.

A fifth generation Atlantan, he graduated from Marietta High School, and  received a bachelor’s degree from Liberty University, his biography said. He serves as a deacon at Eastside Baptist Church. He and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, have two children, Jack, 4, and Anne Collins, 1. They live in Buckhead.

His biography says that he is also a supporter of numerous causes and organizations. He financially supports , Liberty University, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Homerville, Eastside Baptist Church, Goodwill, Ambassadors International, Young Life and Loving Arms Cancer Outreach.
