Challenge Issued: Ga. Must Compete on Jobs, Stop Losing to Neighbor States

Economic Development director in Buckhead talk calls for more incentives so state can better compete with Alabama, South Carolina

The recent announcement that Asurion will bring up to 250 jobs to Buckhead showed the importance of state and local incentives to bring businesses to Georgia.

But while the Nashville-based firm is to receive $2 million in local and state incentives to put a software development center in Buckhead's Piedmont Center,  the state's top economic development officicial said Thursday that Georgia must do more to attract businesses.

Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Ga. Department of Economic Development, said in a speech during a real estate forecast meeting at Buckhead's St. Regis that South Carolina and Alabama are beating Georgia in bringing in new jobs. Here is a report on Cummiskey's talk from Skyline Views, the blog of Wilbert News Strategies.

What do you think can be done to bring more jobs to Buckhead, as with the Asurion announcement?
