Get Out: Weekend Planner

Hear some hip-hop/soul music, celebrate the royal wedding, hang out on a patio, see teens' films or support horse programs that work with challenged kids — no matter what your desire, Buckhead's got you covered!

 

1. ENJOY BLUE JEANS, BLUEGRASS AND BARBECUE AT CHASTAIN HORSE PARK

Where/When: Chastain Horse Park (in the heart of Chastain Park), 4371 Powers Ferry Road., Atlanta, Saturday,  noon to 3 p.m.

Why go: Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the nonprofit therapeutic riding programs at the horse park for students with mental or physical disabilities, children-at-risk, and injured military returning from war. There will be live music with a bluegrass and country feel, along with a mini-mechanical bull, among other things. Barbecue restaurants will also serve their best offerings.

Pricing: $10 for adults (ages 12 and up)/$5 for children (ages 5 – 11), and children 4 and under are free. To purchase advance tickets, or for additional information contact (404) 252-4244 extension 32 or email laurenbrooks@chastainhorsepark.org.

2. WATCH YOUNG ARTISTS' FILMS

Where/When: 7 p.m. Saturday, the Hendrix-Chenault Theater at the Lovett School.

Why go: The Lovett High School Film Fest features 21 short films culled from 180 submissions worldwide. The festival includes a red carpet experience for filmmakers from around the Atlanta area, Georgia and the Carolinas who will attend. Awards will be presented in all major categories, for U.S. and International Narrative, Documentar, and Music Video, according to the Lovett Web Page.

Pricing: Free. Tickets available at school's Fine Arts Office.

3. ATTEND A “FLAMES FOR FIREMEN” PATIO PARTY

Where/When: Shula’s 347 Grill, 3405 Lenox Road NE, Atlanta, Thursday, 6 p.m.

Why go: This patio party kicks off the patio season at this popular restaurant, with a cookout benefiting the Atlanta Fire Foundation’s partnership with Freedom Ride 2011.

Pricing: Free/can vary with other purchases.

4. CELEBRATE THE ROYAL WEDDING WITH MOVIES IN THE GARDEN

Where/When: The Mansion on Peachtree, 3376n Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Friday,  7 p.m.

Why go: Celebrating the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Mansion on Peachtree kicks off the first Movies in the Garden event of 2011 with the 1951 Fred Astaire musical, “The Royal Wedding,” being shown in the hotel’s English garden.

Pricing: Each $40 ticket includes two drinks, hors d’oeuvres and parking. Reservations are required: 404-995-7545. Must be 21 or older to attend this event.

5.  SEE ERIC ROBERSON LIVE IN CONCERT

Where/When: Mason Murer Fine Art, 199 Armour Drive, Atlanta, Friday, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Why go: Get out and listen to some hip-hop/soul music.

Pricing: $50 per person
