House Hunt: Lush Landscapes

This week's homes have appealing yards

Landscaping matters are on my mind this week. I prefer that state of things to having at hand matter that needs landscaping, and I suspect I'm not alone in that state.

Diligence has given 3860 Powers Ferry Road grounds that can be labeled pristine. Grass sharply delineates the edges of the concrete driveway. A bed of shrubs nestles before the columned front porch. Pinetrees tower around the two-story brick home, and post-vegetation (pine straw?) covers the spaces amid those shrubs. At home I consider essential the repurposing of such windfall material, and anyone who takes up residence in this Chastain Park home is also likely to see the wisdom of "giving back to the land."

Erected in 2003, 3860 has four bedrooms, including a second-floor master suite with walk-in closet. The home's five (and a half) bathrooms feature traditional fixtures, as well as a bathtub separate from an adjacent shower stall that will appeal to the couple who split on the proper method of ablution (but who also hate to be apart).

A different landscaping matter awaits the next owner of 3549 Kingsboro Road: ivy. The dark-leaved, all-conquering vines cloak and surround the home's utility shed. Ivy makes an appealing ground cover, but it also demands steady maintenance. In front, 3549 has a lush lawn and trainable hedges.

The interior of this Ridgedale Park ranch home has hardwood floors, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. It also has a handful of inviting eccentricities: an inset housing for entertainment devices that resembles a chest of drawers retreating into the wall; a fireplace set in floor-to-ceiling pastel stone; and at least one glass/brass doorknob that probably dates to the home's 1950 construction.

(Please note that all property details, including pricing, are confirmed as of press time but are also subject to change.)
