From Patch Staff Reports

Simon Wu, who will be a Pace Academy senior next year, is participating this week in an internship at the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations in Washington, D.C.

Wu is only the second high school student chosen to participate in the program, normally reserved for college students, according a a news release from the school. He was chosen an outstanding delegate, representing Sudan, at Model Arab League last year, which earned him an invitation to apply for the internship.

To be chosen, Wu had to submit a transcript and  a resume of activities and submit an essay on the successes and failures of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. During his internship, continuing through Friday, he will attend seminars with senior government officials and lectures on foreign policy, as well as help plan, structure and create topics for next year's Model Arab League conferences.

"What I want to come away from this is a greater understanding of a realistic work environment,”said Simon, “ as well as a greater breadth of understanding about the crucial underpinnings of foreign policy and diplomacy.”
