Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

We’re Giving Away $3k! Help Your Favorite Cause Get a Share

Patch employees are active volunteers in our communities, stepping away from our laptops to give back during our Give 5 days. Our next volunteer day is May 10, and we decided to give more than our time this month. We're donating $3,000 to local charities.

Want to get the word out about the good work that a nonprofit is doing in your community? Post an announcement on Patch!

We're not a stuffy, old-fashioned community news site. We actually make it easy for you to share the good news in your neighborhood.

If you're coming to this article on an iPhone, we apologize, but you can't see our entry form. Please visit Patch from a computer to take part in our Nonprofit Newsletter drive.

Hi, Melanie. Thanks for your interest and for the hard work you're doing with Stick it 2 Cancer. With the way this drive is set up, we will only be sending money directly to 501(c)(3) groups, so even if you're raising money through that group for a 501(c)(3), if Stick it 2 Cancer doesn't have that designation we wouldn't be able to do it. If there's a local or state LLS chapter, you could encourage your folks to list that when they sign up. You can email me with any other questions: perry.parks@patch.com. Thanks.

Natalie and Heather, I didn't realize that our organization, Emma's Emmbassadors, has supporters over here in Peachtree Corners. Thank you so much for your support. Our Annual Golf Tournament, held on Monday, April 30, at the Marietta Country Club was a huge success. Support for these Autistic children is vitally needed. We also do a Stick it to Cancer Campaign. For a $5 donation we write the name of a loved one who has been effected by cancer. At the night of the 24 Hours of Booty event, we light all the glowsticks. It's a pretty awesome sight to see all those lives lit... We started this 3 years ago and in 2 years doubled the size of our team and over tripled our fundraising efforts raising nearly $20,000 in 2011. 24HOB is a 24 hour bike ride that raises money for LiveStrong and The Aflac Center at CHOA. Please check out our story and why we are so passionate about 24 Hours of Booty!

Days for Girls has very recently formed a chapter in Decatur! We sew cloth sanitary pads for girls who would otherwise miss days of school once a month. The pads are assembled into a full kit for each girl which includes soap, a washcloth, panties, 2 pads with 10 liners, and safety pins (in case the snaps ever fail on the pads). These kits are sent with various groups all over the world! The Georgia chapter recently completed and shipped 30 kits to girls in a Niger orphanage. We meet monthly at Lutheran Church of the Messiah on Clairemont Rd. Our local blog is www.daysforgirlsgeorgia.blogspot.com, and the main organization's website is www.daysforgirls.org. Thanks!

I am delighted to lift up Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children here in Cherokee County. We train and support community volunteers to advocate for local foster youth- to make sure their basic rights and essential needs don't get overlooked by an overburdened child welfare system. We believe that society has a fundamental obligation to ensure that every child has the right to be treated with dignity, to be safe, and to thrive in the embrace of a loving family.

We want to make an impact in our community to display the level that Breast Cancer has made. Foxs Trotters is here in our community doing great things to bring women and families together to support one another, encourage and uplift those that have endured a diagnosis. We stress the importance of Raising Awareness and providing multiple levels of support. We want women to know that even though they may have received a diagnosis they are still worthy and have valued to add to their families and the community. We're comprised of families that have gone on this journey and we walk to support others.
Please give us your support as a community that is united and standing together.

I would like to nominate the Lilburn Co-Op as they help local families in need.

Also, I would like to say that please think hard before considering donating to Daffy's Pet Kitchen (it's mentioned above) because I doubt most people THAT REALLY NEED HELP for their pets would ever see it! Daffy's will not help people's pets unless they have been spayed/neutered & have their shot records up to date. Well...who are they to judge if a person is temporarily down on their luck & obviously if they could afford to get their INDOOR animals fixed they wouldn't be in a position to need temporary assistance. Who is anyone to judge any pet owner as a "bad pet owner" for not fixing their pet - all kinds of scenarios can prove otherwise. Maybe a poor family kindly, lovingly took in an unwanted, unloved animal that another just dropped & that family cares for it the best they can to give it a chance, maybe the pet is indoors only, maybe some owners feel it's bad to spay or neuter, maybe the pet isn't old enough & so on. Daffy's Pet Kitchen should be ashamed for even nominating themselves! They claim to help animals in need, but they are choosy, snobby, judgemental & wrong. So an animal doesn't have the right to eat well if it's body parts aren't snipped to Daffy's idea of what a good pet owner should be...pitiful. People that claim to help other people & animals normally don't play favorites in the process!!

I'm here to shout the praises of the ATLANTA HUMANE SOCIETY. They are Atlanta's oldest private charitable organization founded in 1873. AHS does not euthanize for time or space. They are a pet adoption center with a proven track record of helping the city' homeless, abused, and neglected animals and offer many additional public-wide services, including a Canine Play Yard for potential adopters, spaying and neutering, dog training and educational programs, and a veterinary clinic. They serve Atlantan's that cannot speak for themselves and that's beautiful!

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Ms. Stack through her support of the elementary school her children attend. I admire the work she and all of the volunteers associated with Backpack BLESSings do to provide hundreds of children nourishment during weekends and breaks from school. Often the only decent meal our students receive is at school, Ms. Stack and her fellow heros help fill the void and make the lives of so many children a little better.
