Police Locate U-Haul Used in Buckhead Smash-and-Grab
Police have not yet located the suspects involved in the incident.
Atlanta Police have located the abandoned U-Haul truck used early Monday morning to smash the front of a Radio Shack before suspects burglarized it. Police are still seeking the suspects involved in the incident.
Just minutes after 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Atlanta Police Zone 2 officers responded to a burglary call at the Radio Shack, located near Sidney Marcus Boulevard and Piedmont Road, according to a statement from APD Sgt. Greg Lyon.
Officers were told that a white U-Haul was backed up to the entrance of the electronics store, but when several units arrived on the scene, the rental vehicle was gone.
A witness on the scene told officers the U-Haul was last seen traveling down Sidney Marcus Boulevard towards I-85, where officers began following it as it traveled southbound into Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward, where Zone 5 officers assisted.
When officers turned on their lights and sirens, the suspects sped up and fled.
Since it is APD policy not to engage in vehicle chases over nonviolent thefts, police discontinued their pursuit, Lyon stated.
Once officers caught up with the vehicle, they found it abandoned at Angier and Peace Avenues. Merchandise from the Radio Shack was still in the vehicle, along with blood.
The suspects fled on foot and have not yet been located.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects' whereabouts are asked to contact Atlanta Police.
