Say Goodbye to Cafe Intermezzo, Buckhead
The European-style cafe is closing its Brookwood location and moving to Midtown.
After 25 years in its Brookwood location, Cafe Intermezzo will close its doors there and reopen again in its new location at the 12th & Midtown development in late January 2013.
Owner Brian Olson said the cafe will move on a Sunday night and open for business in the new location on the following Monday morning.
Olson said while business at the Brookwood location has steadily grown, he wants to see it grow faster. He thinks it will in the new $2 billion mixed-use development project on the Midtown Mile.
"It's just time to make a change to a much greater pedestrian area. There are a lot of people living close by, which was really the main motivation," Olson told Buckhead Patch.
He will miss the Brookwood location, which opened on Dec. 29, 1987, and has since become a beloved Buckhead meeting place.
"It's got a nice feel to it. Opening Day feels like yesterday in many respects," he said. "It was very challenging. It was exciting."
Patrons can expect the same Cafe Intermezzo they've fondly come to know, with its plethora of coffee and alcoholic beverages, hundreds of torts, cakes and other baked goods and international dishes.
There will be one main difference, though. Intermezzo-lovers will now have even more time to enjoy the cafe, which will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 3 a.m.
