Officer in Buckhead IHOP Incident Placed on Administrative Duty During Investigation

Office of Professional Standards investigating altercation captured on video

A police officer captured on video striking a woman at the Buckhead IHOP has been placed on administrative duty, police spokesman Carlos Campos said Wednesday afternoon.

“The officer involved in the arrest and confrontation with a patron at the IHOP in Buckhead has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation by the department’s Office of Professional Standards," Campos said in a statement.

"Use of force by police officers is a matter the department takes seriously, and the OPS investigation will determine if the officer acted within established guidelines. Chief [George] Turner has pledged to have the OPS investigation concluded in 10 business days.”

Campos said the police report from the incident is being processed and that no interviews would be given due to the investigation.

The video shows the Atlanta police officer, who has not been identified, striking a woman early Sunday morning at the Buckhead International House of Pancakes.

According to the story first reported by WSB-TV, the officer working security at the restaurant told a group of women seated at a table to be quiet, and the altercation broke out. Videos of the incident were posted on You Tube.
