Workers Prepare for 65th Annual Macy's Tree Lighting

Workers are preparing the decor, lighting and stage for the annual Macy's Christmas Tree Lighting, which will take place on Thanksgiving at 7 p.m. at Lenox Square.

The pre-lighting concert and festivities begin at 6:15 and features country music star Trace Adkins, "The Voice" season two finalist Chris Mann,  and Cymphonique Miller, star of Nickelodeon’s “How to Rock” show.

Fireworks will follow the tree lighting.

This year's tree comes from Mableton and is approximately 35 years old and weighs 14,000 pounds. The 60-foot Georgia white pine tree was planted in 1977 by a man who hoped it'd one day become the Macy's Christmas Tree, according to news reports.

For the last eight years, patients from the cancer and blood disorders center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta served as honorary tree-lighters. This year, Aflac Cancer Center patients Millie Baldwin and Myles Horton will switch on the tree's lights, illuminating the roof of Macy's.

Officials advise attendees to take MARTA to the Lenox Square station since there will be limited parking for the event.
