DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) announces
  the opening of the first installment in the series of the 2011/2012 Wor
 king Artist Project exhibitions &ndash\; Gregor Turk: Terminal Velocity.
  There will be an opening reception for Turk&rsquo\;s exhibition on Frid
 ay\, May 4\, from 6:30 p.m. &ndash\; 8:30 p.m. There will be an Artist T
 alk by Turk on June 5 at 7:00 p.m. with a reception beforehand at 6:30 p
 .m. The Artist Talk is free to the public. Gregor Turk: Terminal Velocit
 y runs May 5 &ndash\; July 14\, 2012.\nABOUT &ldquo\;TERMINAL VELOCITY&r
 dquo\; EXHIBITION&nbsp\;\n&ldquo\;Through this new work\, I continue my 
 exploration of mapping and marking place\, addressing the shifting\, con
 tradicting\, and sometime absurd sentiment of centeredness\,&rdquo\; the
  artist\, Gregor Turk\, states. &ldquo\;Obelisks and x-marks constructed
  of wood and wrapped with rubber serve as the primary forms in this exhi
 bition with several works focusing on Atlanta&rsquo\;s own center points
 \, its interstate interchanges.&rdquo\;\n&ldquo\;This exhibition debuts 
 our 2011/2012 group of Working Artist Project artists\, marking our 4th 
 year of supporting local artists through the WAP awards program\,&rdquo\
 ; states MOCA GA Director\, Annette Cone-Skelton. &ldquo\;Gregor Turk&rs
 quo\;s exhibition combines his love of maps and his lifelong observance 
 of Atlanta to focus in a new way on geographical elements that we encoun
 ter without thinking every day in our city.&rdquo\;\nABOUT GREGOR TURK\n
 Gregor Turk is an Atlanta native who is known for his public installatio
 ns\, ceramic sculptures\, photography and mixed media constructions. He 
 is a graduate of The Lovett School and received a BA from Rhodes College
  in Memphis and an MFA from Boston University. He is currently an Adjunc
 t Sculpture Professor at SCAD in Atlanta. Fascinated by maps since child
 hood\, Turk is interested in what they tell us about ourselves as indivi
 duals and collectively as a culture. This exhibition at MOCA GA coincide
 s with the 20th anniversary of Turk&rsquo\;s transcontinental trek by fo
 ot and bicycle along the US-Canadian border formed by the 49th parallel\
 , at 1270 miles\, the world&rsquo\;s longest straight boundary. Photo re

 RKING ARTIST PROJECT&nbsp\;\nThe Working Artist Project is an award prog
 ram that was developed by MOCA GA and is funded by a major grant from Th
 e Charles Loridans Foundation\, with additional support from the Nationa
 l Endowment for the Arts. The Project was designed to support establishe
 d visual artists of merit who reside in the Atlanta metropolitan area. T
 his initiative provides an unparalleled level of support for individual 
 artists\, expands MOCA GA&rsquo\;s mission\, and promotes Atlanta as a c
 ity where artists can live\, work and thrive. Each year\, MOCA GA select
 s three visual artists to receive the award. Among Atlanta's best and br
 ightest\, these artists are supported with an exhibition\, a promotion\,
  a studio assistant and a major monetary stipend to facilitate their wor
 k over the course of the year.\nABOUT MOCA GA\nThe Museum of Contemporar
 y Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) collects and archives significant contemporar
 y works by artists in the state of Georgia. To place its artists in a br
 oader context\, MOCA GA's exhibitions also include artists from around t
