Patch Staff Report

The Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy aims to create a Master Plan for the property that currently includes Bobby Jones Golf Course, Bitsy Grant Tennis Center and Atlanta Memorial Park.

The Master Plan will focus, among other things, on solutions to improve conditions on those segments of Peachtree Creek and Tanyard Creek running through the Park, including storm water management and flood mitigation; restoration and preservation of creek beds to prevent further erosion; and management of sewer-related issues.

Both creeks funnel water from an immense natural drainage basin that serves some 55,000 acres of land ranging from Decatur to Dunwoody and are highly contaminated with garbage and debris.

Buckhead residents have the opportunity to do their part in preserving and improving Georgia's water resources, as well as work towards making Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy's vision a reality.

On Saturday, March 1, make plans to join the Peachtree Creek Cleanup with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. But make plans quick because registration to participate closes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February, 26.
