AV200 bike ride closing party, check presentation

July 13 event will include final fundraising tally from the 12th ride of the Action Cycling Atlanta AIDS Vaccine 200

Action Cycling Atlanta (www.ActionCycling.org), the all-volunteer group that produces the AIDS Vaccine (AV) 200 ride, announces this year’s closing party and check presentation. The event, including light hors d'oeuvres and drinks, is 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Bill Lowe Galley (764 Miami Circle, #210, Atlanta 30324). All are invited to attend, and are asked to RSVP at rsvp@ActionCycling.org by Thursday, July 10.

AV200 benefits AIDS vaccine research at the Emory Vaccine Center and local AIDS service organizations. Prior to this year’s 12th annual AV200, the events have cumulatively raised more than $1.6 million for the Emory Vaccine Center, AIDS Athens, Jerusalem House and Positive Impact. This year AID Atlanta is being added as a beneficiary.

Last month’s ride raised more than $200,000, according to 2014 AV200 Co-Ride Directors Chris Bess and Tina Chang. “We are still taking donations and processing corporate matching gifts, so join us to find out what our final fundraising total is,” Bess says.

“On behalf of the AIDS Vaccine 200 Board of Directors and Steering Committee, we would like to THANK YOU for your contribution to this year's ride,” Chang says, “and hope you will join us for this closing event.”

Chang and Bess note that Action Cycling is already preparing for the 2015 AV200, slated to take place May 16-17, 2015.

“Thanks to our generous sponsors and patrons, Action Cycling is able to donate 100 percent of all funds raised by participants to local AIDS service organizations and AIDS vaccine research,” says Bess says. “These unrestricted funds fill funding gaps that cannot be met through grant dollars alone.”

About the AV200: The two-day, 200-mile bicycle event travels from Emory University to Eatonton, Ga. in the Oconee National Forest and back to Emory. Participants include individual riders and relay teams, with support from a volunteer crew. AV200 Sponsors for 2014 include at the Gold level: McKesson, No Mas Cantina, Massage Envy, and Cultural Sync. Silver sponsors to date include Taylor English, Exhale, The Coca-Cola Company, Peachtree Bikes, Piedmont Periodontics, Solaria Lighting, Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Coldwell Banker, Sun in My Belly, Urban Body, Whole Foods, Iskol Fisk, Midtown Life Studio, and The Joint.
