Covenant Presbyterian Church (www.covenantpresbyterian.us) presents its 2013 Mitchell Speaker Series Thursday evenings, Sept. 12, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14, 2013.  Endowed by the Mitchell Women’s Christian Education Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, this year’s theme is “Take a Risk, Make a Difference”, and all of the presentations are free and open to the public.  The programs will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall, and will begin at 7 p.m. with coffee and dessert, followed by the presentations from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Attendees may park for free on the top deck of the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center parking lot, immediately south of the church, located at 2461 Peachtree Road.

The Sept. 12 speaker is Aparna Bhattacharyya,  executive director of Raksha, a Georgia-based non-profit that promotes a stronger and better South Asian community through confidential support services, education and advocacy.  Bhattacharyya recently was named a “Champion of Change” during a ceremony at The White House for her work on behalf of battered women in the Asian-American community.  The recipient of numerous awards, the Atlanta native currently serves on the board of the Georgia coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project.  She is Chairperson of the Board of VIDA Legal Assistance.  She will share her experiences working to end domestic violence in the Asian community.
