Scholastic Art Awards Honor 20 Pace Students, Much Wins Top Prize

Each year, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards partners with more than 100 visual and literary-arts organizations across the country to bring the awards to local communities.

Teens in grades seven through 12 can apply in 28 categories of art and writing for the chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. Luminaries in the visual and literary arts judge the submissions and look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

In each region, five works receive the designation “American Visions Nominee.” These works are exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and online and are featured in the Gold Key Ceremony program. Pace junior Rachel Much is one of this year’s five American Visions Nominees for her painting “Melting.” All best-of-show works are nationally adjudicated, and one of the five in each region will be selected at the national level.
