Buckhead Coalition Accepts 11 New Members for 2014
Limiting its membership to 100 chief executive officers of major area firms, the Buckhead Coalition only inducts new members when it learns of vacancies during the first quarter of the year.
The small but influential nonprofit Buckhead civic association, the Buckhead Coalition, has announced its new members for this year.
Limiting its membership to 100 chief executive officers of major area firms, it only inducts new members when it learns of vacancies during the first quarter of the year.
The national average of attrition for nonprofits is reported to be around twenty percent, thus this group outdid the competition by half. Membership is by invitation, but availability exceeding the openings builds a holdover waiting list. This year, a major portion of the attrition came about as a result of mergers, transfers, and relocations.

In addition, to strengthen its affiliation with the area mass membership Buckhead Business Association, the Coalition each year adds the BBA President as an ex-officio member, currently, Brian J. McGuire.

The Buckhead Coalition, headed by former Atlanta mayor Sam Massell, is an influential nonprofit civic association, much like a chamber of commerce, for this affluent northern quadrant of the city of Atlanta. Its mission is to “nurture the quality of life and help coördinate an orderly growth” within its 28 square miles, with a population of 78,000. It was incorporated in 1988. Its founding President is Massell. Its Chairman (changed every two years) is David P. Fitzgerald, President & Chief Executive Officer of Fitzgerald & Company.
