Bucks on the Street Online Auction Begins Dec. 1

The Bucks on the Street are now on display at Lenox Square Mall and are currently up for auction to benefit Buckhead parks and greenspace.

Those who have been waiting for a chance to take home one of the unique artistic Bucks on the Street will soon be able to place bids in an online auction, which begins Saturday, Dec. 1.

The auction of the 20 buck statues, which were each hand-painted by a local artist, will continue until Dec. 31. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Livable Buckhead’s greenspace work.

The online auction is the culmination of Bucks on the Street, a two-year project in which local businesses sponsored bucks that were decorated to their liking and displayed at their businesses throughout Buckhead.

The bucks have been gathered and are now on display on the second level of Lenox Square Mall and outside near the valet entrance and Macy’s.

“We’re thrilled that Simon Properties allowed us to display all the bucks together at the mall,” stated Donna Kain, co-chair of Bucks on the Street, in a release. “They have generated a lot of interest and people are having a great time taking their pictures with them. It’s exactly the kind of excitement we envisioned when Elizabeth Gill and I started the project.”

The starting bid for each buck is $250, and each eight-foot statue has a “buy-it-now” price of $5,000. If a winning bid exceeds $1,000, the amount above that is a charitable donation and is tax deductible. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Livable Buckhead, a nonprofit organization that is leading an effort to increase greenspace throughout Buckhead.

“We’re honored to be the beneficiary of Bucks on the Street,” stated Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead, in a release. “Devoting the money from this project to the development of parks and trails for our community is a great way for it to leave a lasting legacy. Greenspace is vital to positioning Buckhead, and the city of Atlanta, for future generations who will choose where their businesses locate and their families settle.”
