The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs announced this week the recipients of the Emerging Artist Award, as part of the Contracts for Arts Services program.

The 2014 Emerging Artist Award will be presented to Jessica Caldas, a visual artist, and Aubrey Longley-Cook, a media artist. Each artist will receive a $1,500 grant and read more about the artists here.

An exhibition showcasing the work of this year’s recipients will be on display at Chastain Arts Center Gallery, located at 135 W. Wieuca Rd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30342, starting on the 17th of March. The exhibition’s closing reception will take place at the Gallery on April 16th from 6:30-8:00pm. For gallery hours, please call 404-252-2927.

During the reception, Councilmember Natalyn Archibong will also present each artist with an official Proclamation on behalf of the Atlanta City Council.

“Atlanta is recognized as one of the top cities in which to thrive as an artist,” Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, said in a news release. “This award is one of the ways that we support professional artists living and working in the City of Atlanta. As these two artists’ careers continue to flourish in the coming years, we look forward to seeing the positive impact they make in Atlanta’s creative community.”

Emerging Artist Award recipients are chosen by a community panel. Priority is given to artists 35 years of age or younger or with less than 5 years experience in their field.
