Volunteers Needed for Atlanta's Homeless Registry

The goal is to create a by-name registry of the city's homeless, enabling organizers to prioritize those most vulnerable and at risk of dying on the street so their needs can be met.

The City of Atlanta is seeking hundreds of volunteers to participate in the Atlanta Homeless Registry – a large-scale effort to survey people sleeping in unsheltered locations and emergency shelters.

The goal of the Atlanta Homeless Registry is to create a by-name registry of the city's homeless, enabling organizers to prioritize those most vulnerable and those at risk of dying on the street so that they can be connected with housing and services that meet their needs.

Primary volunteer opportunities include:

  • Thursday, January 17, 6 p.m. - 12 a.m.: Conduct surveys in emergency shelters
  • Friday, January 18, 12 a.m. - 6 a.m. (greatest volunteer need): Conduct surveys in unsheltered locations

All volunteers will be provided with training and will be deployed on teams led by qualified outreach workers.

In addition to conducting surveys in emergency shelters and outdoor locations, volunteers area needed to assist with data entry and social media efforts related to the Homeless Registry. Click here for a complete list of volunteer opportunities.

The Atlanta Homeless Registry is organized by the office of Mayor Kasim Reed as part of the Unsheltered No More initiative, United Way of Greater Atlanta, Central Atlanta Progress, and Hands On Atlanta. Unsheltered No More is a partnership between Reed and community leaders to dramatically reduce street homelessness in Atlanta.
