Woman Buys Winning $400K Lotto Ticket in Buckhead

The woman just recently celebrated her 68th birthday.

A woman got quite the birthday present recently when she learned she'd purchased a winning Georgia Lottery ticket worth $400,000 in Buckhead.

Janice Harris of Atlanta, who celebrated her 68th birthday earlier this month, claimed her prize recently at the Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Pharr Food & Gas, located at 345 Pharr Road N.E., sold a $400,000 top prize from the instant game 20X The Money.

“I’ll pay off some bills,” said the U.S. Postal Service retiree. “More than likely I’ll work with a charity that helps children.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
