Atlanta Opera Scavenger Hunt Begins Monday

Uncover daily clues scattered throughout the city and you could win a grand prize of a VIP opera experience at next week's opening night of "Carmen"

The Atlanta Opera, based on the westside on Northside Drive, begins its Online Scavenger Hunt Monday in honor of National Opera Week.

You are invited to participate in the scavenger hunt, known as #OperaSleuthATL, by becoming an “opera detective.” Uncover daily clues (Oct. 29 – Nov. 2) scattered throughout the city, and photograph your progress along the way for your chance to win daily prizes, and a grand prize of a VIP opera experience at next week’s opening night of Carmen.

A daily clue will be posted promptly at 9 a.m. Participants will have until 9 p.m. that evening to solve the opera riddle, find the venue, take a picture and submit the evidence via Facebook, Twitter or email using the hashtag #OperaSleuthATL to receive a full 50 points.

Those joining the Online Opera Scavenger Hunt late will also have a chance to win, however will suffer point deductions for tardiness.

On the last day, Friday, Nov. 2, detectives will have between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to uncover the final clue. Once participants capture the clue using their Smart Phones or cameras, the race to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre begins. The first contestant to arrive with the highest amount of points can claim the grand prize.

Volunteers will be waiting with the participants’ scores.

Keeping Score:

Using #OperaSleuthATL, participants should post their pictures to the Atlanta Opera's Facebook, Twitter or email as soon as possible, in order to be rewarded the full amount of points.

Only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. will participants have the chance to win the full 50 points.

Use #OperaSleuthATL for your chance to win daily prizes, which can be picked up at The Atlanta Opera offices or Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. The grand prize will be awarded between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. p.m. on Friday, November 2nd at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The Atlanta Opera opens its 2012-2013 season next week with Bizet’s classic, Carmen. Set in sultry Spain, the opera traces Don José’s ill-fated attraction to the alluring gypsy, Carmen. When Carmen casts off her ardent lover for the handsome toreador, Escamillo, José’s intense jealousy turns to vengeance and dooms the fiery romance to a tragic end. Carmen is full of sizzling opera hits, including the famous “Habañera” and the irresistible Toreador’s song.

Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.
