Morris Ward: Original Buckhead Boy Turned Artist

Behind the Buck: Meet Morris Ward, creator of the Buckhead shopper Buck statue.

1) Tell us about your Buck.

He stands under a tree at the Around Lenox shopping center. He is an upscale Buckhead shopper wearing Gucci loafers, designer jeans, carrying a large shopping bag and flashing an oversize credit card.

2) What inspired you to approach your Buck this way?

I was asked to do a special buck themed as an upscale shopper. I also worked on a second buck whose theme was already established.

3) In general, where do you find the inspiration for your art?

Mostly from past experiences during my fifty years of producing art.

4) How did you become an artist?

Lifelong pursuit, drawing as a youngster, leading to art degree from UGA and a career as a designer.

5) Is there anything else you'd like to share with Buckhead Patch readers?

I am one of the original and I do hope Bucks on the Street brings added attention to the area.
