Judith Vanderver won the Buckhead Patch Summer Photo Contest with a shot of her daughter taking a nap at the beach with a book covering her face.

Buckhead Patch readers voted Vanderver’s photo their favorite

A Buckhead resident whose family has deep roots in Atlanta, Vanderver is a professional photographer, specializing in portraits and events. She’s been operating Judith Vanderver Photography for five years.

“I have a little bit of an eye, and really enjoy working with people, so that’s worked well,” she says.

The Vanderver family was at Orange Beach in Alabama when she saw her daughter, Hannah, had fallen asleep while reading Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451.” Her husband encouraged her to take the photo, which expresses the easygoing vacation life at the beach.

Hannah, 12, a seventh grader at who attended until last year, is the eighth generation native Atlantan in Vanderver’s family, with roots in Atlanta dating back to 1840. 

Like Hannah, Vanderver went to Trinity School and Westminster. Her father attended and old Northside High School, now , and her great-grandmother in the 1890s went to Washington Seminary, a precursor of Westminster. Vanderver enjoys studying the history of Buckhead, looking in the archives of the

She also likes getting out to events for her photography business. "I love working with people," she says. "It’s a lot of fun. I’m a social person.”
