Alan Avery Art Company will open exhibition featuring the work of Donald Sultan and Caio Fonseca to the public on Saturday, May 19.
Donald Sultan’s large scale flowers, although seemingly fit into the category of still life, break into the realm of abstraction. Known for his use of formal elements, such as pure color, shape, and organic forms, Sultan’s work has a subtly as well as weightiness, due to the large size, that is balanced by his attention to positive and negative space.
Caio Fonseca’s abstract paintings are studies in texture, shape and color. Geometric forms float, swell, and peek through layers of paint, creating a harmonic surface. Fonseca compliments his sophisticated color palette with the creamy white he uses throughout his compositions.
Both artists’ work is in the permanent collection of many prestigious institutions including The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
