Pace Academy Upper School students kicked of the New Year with Spirit Week, the school’s annual weeklong competition between grades, which took place Jan. 6-10.

Prior to the competition, each Upper School grade selected a theme and designed campus decorations, which were placed in various locations around campus to illustrate each theme.

Students arrived on Monday morning to a Great Gatsy-inspired Academic Village, the junior’s theme. The sophomores decked the school’s Inman Center hall with colorful balloons and images from the movie Lilo & Stitch, their theme. The freshmen class trimmed the trees of the Academic Village quad to evoke scenes from DreamWorks’ Madagascar.

The Class of 2014 worked through the night on Jan. 9 to transform the campus into the land of Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Marvin the Martian, Tweety Bird and other characters appeared throughout the hallways.

Each class also shot humorous videos, created incredible banners, participated in dress-up days, and prepared skits and dance numbers, which were performed for Pace parents, alumni and friends during a Friday-afternoon pep rally. A panel of faculty, staff and alumni judged each grade’s performance and level of participation throughout the week.

The entire week was a wonderful celebration of creativity, teamwork and the tightknit Pace community.
