Apple Fans Flock to Lenox for iPhone 5

Doors to the store opened at 8 a.m. Friday morning

Gregory Wood and his wife Jennifer Johnson were in line at the Apple Store at Lenox Square around 6:30 a.m. Friday, hoping to score a new iPhone 5.

Around 9 a.m., they were still waiting, but were within minutes of getting their hands on the newest iPhone, which hit stores Friday, Sept. 21.

Wood, like many others in line, admitted they could have pre-ordered the phone.

But that would take away from the experience of standing in line and meeting other Apple fanatics like themselves.

The line at the Apple store Friday morning didn’t die down after the doors to the store opened at 8 a.m.

At any given moment, about 200 people lined the corridor on the second floor of the mall. Some were playing with their current iPhones, others had headphones in.

Robb Loeb, 27, was reading Car and Driver magazine to pass the time in line.

During past releases, Loeb said he would walk into the store around 5 p.m. and get the product with minimal wait or hassle.

On Friday, he decided to join the masses and got in line around 8:15 a.m.

It’s tough to say how many iPhones the store will sell today.

Store employees are not allowed to say how many phones they have in stock.

But lucky for latecomers like Loeb, each person in line receives a ticket that guarantees the phone is still in stock.
