Bobby Jones Reps to Speak at BBA Meeting

Roxanna Giles Smith and Bob Hughes, both of the Bobby Jones Conservancy, will speak at the Buckhead Business Association's weekly breakfast meeting.

Bob Hughes and Roxanne Giles Smith of the Bobby Jones Conservancy will speak at the Buckhead Business Association Weekly Breakfast on May 31 at the City Club of Buckhead.

May 31 will feature a BBA Committee Information Session before Hughes and Smith speak. BBA invites members and non-members to attend this meeting and learn more about how they can make the most of a Buckhead Business Association membership.

“Roxanne Giles Smith and Robert Hughes come to us as great advocates for sustainable growth and conservation in the Buckhead community, particularly as it relates to the areas surrounding the ,” Catherine Cattles, 2012 President of the BBA, said. “We are excited to hear from Roxanne and Robert about for the Bobby Jones Golf Course, the and , as well as renovations to all recreational features of the property.”

Roxanne Giles Smith, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, graduated with a B.A. in History from the University of North Texas. She relocated to Atlanta in 1989 as part of a 25-year career in the hospitality industry, a career which culminated in the New York International Sales Office of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company as Director of Sales for the Entertainment and Travel Market.

Upon her return to Atlanta, she served as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Fox Theatre for 11 years. She significantly contributed to the restoration and maintenance of this historic Atlanta landmark by more than quadrupling the revenue from private events over her tenure at the theatre. She retired in 2003 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Bobby Jones Golf Course and Park Conservancy, President of the Peachtree Battle Alliance and Vice Chair of NPU-C.

Robert T. Hughes, ASLA, guides the planning and design efforts of HGOR Planning and Landscape Architecture as a principal of the Atlanta firm. He speaks both the economic language of clients and the big-idea language of planners and designers. This helps him to establish a dialogue that pulls people together, solves problems and builds accord.

Since its founding in 1992, the projects the firm defines as the most successful are the ones that exemplify a perceptive balance of social, economic and environmental considerations. Hughes received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia in 1977.
