Buckhead Pizza Company Fails Health Inspection

Major violations at the pizzeria included employees handling ready-to-eat food with bare hands and managers not being properly trained in food safety.

A Buckhead pizzeria was served an unpleasant slice by a Fulton County health inspector during its most recent inspection.

Buckhead Pizza Company scored a 44, or U, during its July 16 inspection, Fulton County records show, The pizzeria's health inspector reported that the kitchen area needed a complete, top to bottom cleaning, according to WSB-TV.

The two most worrisome failures on the July 16 report include employees using bare hands to touch ready-to-eat foods and a lack of proper training and knowledge about safety practices by a manager. Both of these violations are considered, "known risk factor[s] for foodborne illness."

When confronted by a WSB-TV reporter, the pizzeria owner said that the employee who mishandled food had been disciplined, and all managers were being certified in food safety.

A second inspection is expected this week.
