Development Group Plans to Install Landmark to Remember Dante's

There's still time to go one last time–or a few more times– to Dante's before it closes sometime in the second or third quarter of next year.

Atlantic Realty Partners, the group that plans to build high-rise apartments on the site of Dante’s Down the Hatch, will also include a commemorative dedication to Dante’s in its new development.

Well aware of the sentimental impact Dante’s had on many Atlantans, Atlantic Realty Partners President Richard Aaronson said the group will incorporate a dedication in its design plans.

“We’re probably going to create some sort of dedication in respect to the streetscape,” Aaronson said. The dedication may be a special nautical-themed bench, a plaque or a similar landmark, he said, “to appropriately recognize Dante’s contribution to Buckhead and the Atlanta community at large.”

Aaronson said the restaurant will likely close during the first or second quarter of next year.

“We’re still working out the details,” he told Patch.

Aaronson said the group approached Dante Stephensen, owner of Dante’s, about the possible acquisition of the property. “It was a very long decision process for him,” Aaronson said of Stephensen.

The group found the property’s location and adjacency to local eateries, Lenox Square and public transit to be ideal for a new high-rise.

Aaronson said his group is trying to capitalize on a trend of increased rental housing developments going up in urban areas, like Buckhead.

Due to a confidentiality clause in the contract agreement between Atlantic Realty Partners and Dante’s, Aaronson cannot disclose how much they will pay to acquire the two-acre parcel on which Dante’s sits.

However, Patch will provide that information once the transaction is complete and entered into the public record.

Don’t worry, Aaronson said there will be ample notice before Dante’s clears out its last crocodile.

“We’re working with him (Stephensen) very closely…so that people interested in going one last time have an opportunity to do so,” Aaronson said.
