House Hunt: Beauties in Brick

Classic features abound in homes

Yeah, it's a brick ... house. Well, actually, two brick houses take the focus in this week's column.

At 2575 W. Wesley Road we have a traditional ranch home with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Built on a 2½-acre plot in 1955, the place remains sturdy but has renovation plans in its future, according to its agent. The flooring here is a mix of hardwoods and carpet.

Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of No. 2575 is a rustic family room with an exposed beam/panel ceiling. A hefty fireplace dominates the space, and that overhead paneling continues above an adjacent screened porch. The view from that porch is of encompassing forest, a swimming pool and of a treehouse that allows children of all ages to get even closer to nature.

The traditional multistory brick home at 451 Ivy Park Lane has two bay windows and two garage doors on its facade, as well as two dormers atop the garage. Out back a pair of lion sculptures flank the patio steps.

Built in 1986, No. 451 has three bedrooms and three bathrooms (plus a half). It has granite counters and cherry cabinetry in the kitchen, a two-story foyer, and (something I noticed only as I left the neighborhood) a hilltop and retainer wall between it and the nearby Ga. 400 corridor. Those last two elements seemed to have rendered the roadway inaudible, at least at the time of my visit.
