Loehmann's Stores Going Out of Business

Liguidation sales start today at all 39 stores nationally, including the one in Loehmann's Plaza.

Loehmann's will begin liquidation sales today, Jan. 9 at its 39 stores, including its Georgia locations at 2480 Briarcliff Road in Loehmann's Plaza and at 120 Perimeter Center Place in Dunwoody.

Loehmann’s said Wednesday that a U.S. bankruptcy court has approved plans for a group of outside firms to conduct “Going Out of Business” sales at each of its stores, The Associated Press reported. The sales will include the liquidation of more than $65 million of inventory, according to the company.

Loehmann's Plaza lost a major tenant this summer when OfficeMax closed. That closing came after the merger of Office Depot and OfficeMax in February. Office Depot has a store in the Toco Hills Shopping Center.

According to published reports, Loehmann's executives cited two main reasons for the company's current financial problems -- its slowness in introducing e-commerce to customers and declining economic conditions in such states as California, New York, Florida and the Midwest.

The stores will have normal business hours during the liquidation sale.
