NPU-B Approves Cheyenne Grille Ownership Change

Plans for new breakfast restaurant also approved

NPU-B this week approved two Peachtree Battle Shopping Center proposals: a change in ownership for the Cheyenne Grill and a new breakfast-style restaurant.

The NPU's Public Safety Committee unanimously approved the applications, with the full NPU concurring later in the evening.

The Cheyenne Grille's new owners, Blue Agave, will return the restaurant and tavern to a family-friendly ambiance, said manager Dallas Bond. The previous owners turned from that philosophy with changes such as a cigar bar, Bond said.

"They ran off the families; we plan on embracing the families," Bond told the committee.

The business, known as a sports-viewing spot, is closed for renovations, Bond said, with a goal of reopening March 25. After his presentation, Bond said the restaurant could open by March 13, with a grand opening event on March 25.

The committee and full board also approved Dana and Mignon Percival's application to open Another Broken Egg Cafe in the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center spot once occupied by Savor Speciality Foods.

Another Broken Egg, the first Atlanta location of a restaurant familiar to Atlantans who vacation in Destin, Fla., will be open from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. seven days a week. The Percivals, who are moving from Orlando to Atlanta to open the restaurant, said less than 10 percent of its business will be from alcohol sales, mainly wine with lunch and drinks at weekend brunch. The business will be available for evening events, they said. They are aiming to open by Memorial Day.

The body also approved the opening of the Tomo sushi restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton residential tower at 3630 Peachtree Road, at the corner of Peachtree-Dunwoody.

The full NPU voted to endorse an application by the Blue Heron Nature Preserve for a $10,000 grant from Park Pride for the removal of invasive plants and the planting of native species. Kevin McCauley, president of the nature preserve's board, told the board "invasive species have taken over a lot of properties, and we're no exception."

McCauley said the grant would also go toward the development of a trail around the nature preserve's pond at the corner of Lakemoore Drive and Roswell Road and the building of a scenic overlook.

In other action, the board OK'd the appointment of NPU Chairperson Sally Silver to a design review committee which will review proposed design changes in the Buckhead Village, the SPI 9 zoning district. The Buckhead CID and BATMA are also represented on the committee, Silver said.

In response to questions by board member Bill Bozarth, Silver said that zoning variance proposals would still have to come before the NPU. She said the design review committee would ensure that design proposals conform to a checklist of accepted features.
