UGA Basketball Player Arrested at Lenox Square

Donte' Williams was charged with possession of marijuana by Zone 2 police.

A Georgia men’s basketball player was arrested last Friday at  in Buckhead on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Donte’ Williams, a starting forward and rising junior for the Bulldogs, was arrested on Friday and booked into Atlanta City Jail, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to the police report, Atlanta Zone 2 police officers pulled over a black Dodge Charger and reported smelling “an extremely strong odor of burning marijuana coming from this vehicle.”

Police ended up finding a small amount of marijuana in a clear plastic bag inside the glove compartment, the AJC reported. Police identified the driver as Claude Reid, 20. Williams, 20, was the passenger. 

Under University Athletic Association policy, a student-athlete arrested on a drug charge must sit out 10 percent of the games that season. Williams started every game for the Bulldogs last season, averaging 8.1 points and 5.1 rebounds a game, RedandBlack.com reported.
