Hunton & Williams Helps Launch American Transaction Processors Coalition

Law firm is founding sponsor of new coalition that protects and promotes industry interests through government and public affairs programs

ATLANTA — April 17, 2014 — Hunton & Williams LLP today announced that Atlanta Managing Partner Kurt Powell, Partner Roth Kehoe and Senior Attorney Robert Green helped launch the American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC). The coalition was created to protect, promote and preserve the interests of the payment processing and financial technology industries through proactive government and public affairs activities.

“With the increased regulation that followed the 2008 financial crisis, we identified an opportunity for transaction processors to have a more strategic, unified approach to protect and promote the industry,” said Powell. “Because of this need, ATPC has garnered widespread support among government and business leaders in Georgia, and we are already exploring ways to bolster outreach and expand the coalition.”

Launched in November 2013, ATPC’s founding members include WorldPay, InComm, Elavon, Fidelity National Information Services and Brightwell Payments. Hunton & Williams is the founding sponsor and serves as the coalition’s advisor. The group represents the interests of more than 70 Georgia-based companies that develop products and provide resources that support the financial service industry’s technology needs. H. West Richards was named the coalition’s executive director and Tony Catalfano, CEO of WorldPay, is chairman of the board of directors.

Headquartered primarily in Georgia, the global payment processing industry generates $50 billion annually, with a projected growth to $65 billion by 2015. More than 60 percent of payment processing companies are based in Atlanta, providing 40,000 jobs in Georgia and an additional 105,000 jobs around the world. In 2012, $85 billion of $135 billion of global payments were processed in Georgia.
