9/11 Victory Run 5K: Celebrating Life, Freedom

A Buckhead family turns their personal story of Sept.11, 2001, into a positive event honoring victims of 9-11 and soldiers who've given heir lives in America's War on Terror.

Mary Jo and Al Means organized the 9/11 Victory Run Sunday at Buckhead's Chastain Park for the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and soldiers who've died in the war on terrorism.

The Buckhead couple had a deep personal connection to Sept. 11. Their son, Ryan Means, volunteered for the Army after his best friend, Buckhead native Adam White, was killed in the terrorist attacks in New York.

Both Means and White were living in New York at the time of the tragic events. White worked at the World Trade Center and was never found. In White's memory, Means joined the Army Special Forces, received his green beret and fought in Iraq, where he contracted bile duct cancer. He died two years ago.

Proceeds from the 5K race at Chastain Park benefited American Legion Post 140 and the Chastain Park Conservancy. The legion post's hut was named in honor of Means last year.
