Buckhead to be Represented in Red Bull Race

"The Prezidents of the United States of America" of Buckhead will compete in the big race on June 9.

The Red Bull Soapbox Race is coming this weekend and the 41 teams have been chosen, including one from right here in Buckhead.

The final lineup of the 41 teams are now set to compete in the 2012 Atlanta Pit Stop on Saturday, June 9. The last spot was won by Wild Card hopeful, Team Penguin, after fighting off the four other teams.  

After a comprehensive application process, the soapbox construction started for all of the teams and thecountdown to June 9 began. Teams were instructed that not only will speed count, they will also be judged on their mind‐blowing creativity and excellent showmanship, which added pressure for the competitors.

Hailing from right here in Buckhead "The Prezidents of the United States of America" have been keeping folks updated on the progress of their soapbox racer through their Facebook fan page.

Their racer is designed to look like a presidential limosine and if the photos they have posted on their page are any indication, all five members of the team will be donning masks of former presidents...ahem, "Prezidents."

"We are a group of guys with the same interest - Driving a model of the Presidential Limousine down a hill at a high speed," the team said on their page.

Other teams hailing from Alabama, California, Florida, elsewhere in Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia are ready to make 10th Street their own drag strip. 

The Atlanta event will be the 12th U.S. Red Bull Soapbox Race toever take place, with the first stateside race held in St. Louis in 2006.  The global event dates back to 2000, when it first took place in Belgium, and has since visited almost 30 countries.  

Other stateside pitstops planned for 2012 include Red Bull Soapbox Race Texas, which is set to take place in Dallas on Sept.15.
