Christ the King to Host Good Friday Service

Pastors from Buckhead churches to deliver meditations on seven last words of Christ

The Cathedral of Christ the King on Good Friday will host a community-wide ecumenical service for Buckhead residents.

Father Frank McNamee, Christ the King's pastor, said this is the first time that Christ the King has been the host of the community service sponsored by a coalition of Buckhead churches including Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip, Peachtree Presbyterian Church and Wieuca Road Baptist Church as well as Christ the King.

The coalition holds two such services a year. The Rev. McNamee said Christ the King joined the coalition after he became pastor, and that it hasn't been practical for the cathedral to be host of the event in the past.

"I wanted to let our parishioners know that there is an ecumenical movement in Buckhead, and that there is a good relationship among the pastors," he said. "We're going to come together and pray together."

The Rev. McNamee said that the coalition churches "respect the traditions of the church that is holding the service," and that the Good Friday gathering will follow the traditional Catholic meditation on the seven last words of Christ.
