Originally published July 1, 2013 at 6 a.m.

This week in Buckhead is all about Independence Day. Here's a roundup of happenings:

  • Cook Hall's Third Annual Fourth Fest is a party that starts at 6 a.m. with brunch and music from DJ Hakim while you cheer on Peachtree Road Race runners. The main event kicks off at 5 p.m. with live music, food specials and cocktails. The music lineup includes performances from Moontower, Yacht Rock Revue, Ralph Roddenbery, Donna Hopkins and friends. Guests will also get a prime view of the 54th Annual Lenox Square Fireworks Display, the biggest and best 4th of July fireworks display in the Southeast.
  • 54th Annual Legendary Fourth of July at Lenox Square will be a family-friendly event of musical entertainment, food concessions and the largest fireworks display in the Southeast. Lenox Square's own 'Atlanta's Next Legend' winner will perform in front of crowds filled with family and friends. Check out the day's full lineup of activities here.
  • Bone Lick BBQ's "Red, White & 'Cue" Fourth of July Rooftop BBQ Bonanza features live music, a whole hog roast, kiddie pools and more, will kick off atop the Apex buildin, all beginning at noon.
  • Fourth Annual Red, White & Whiskey Blue Celebration is the perfect place to watch the Lenox Square fireworks, since you'll be right there on the rooftop of the W Hotel-Buckhead. Salute to swank with signature cocktails including the ‘Fireworks Fizz” and nosh on gourmet bites as DJ Chris Rimby spins the hottest beats.  Doors open at 4 p.m., Lenox Square Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
After all the Fourth of July fireworks and barbecues, you can still celebrate our nation's independence at The Atlanta History Center on Saturday, July 6.  Independence Day! Three Centuries of Celebration is a way to celebrate our nation's independence and history through activities, demonstrations, and performances that highlight Independence Day traditions from 1776 through today, like tasting hand-crafted ice cream or learning historic dances and songs. Free parking, food for purchase, and picnics welcomed. The festivities last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 6.

One non-July 4th item is the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, July 1 at Center for Learning and Leadership (CLL) Building at 130 Trinity Avenue at 2 p.m.
