1.   PORGY AND BESS OPERA CHAT WITH THE ATLANTA OPERA

Why go: The Atlanta Opera invites all opera lovers to get to know select members of the cast, artistic and production crews, in a discussion of what it takes to make the upcoming production of “Porgy and Bess” come to life.

2.      SEE ROCK-N-ROLL COVER BAND TRON JACKSON

Where/When: Andrews Upstairs, 56 East Andrews Drive, Suite 10, Atlanta, Friday,  10 p.m. 

Why go: You know you want to see this cover band rock it out to favorites like U2, AC/DC and The Killers. 

Pricing: $8 in advance/$10 day of show 

3.  ENJOY VALENTINE'S SOCIAL AT ST. REGIS

 Where/When: , 88 W. Paces Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta, Sunday,  4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Why go:  Featuring a special pre-Valentine's Day wine and chocolate tasting, the event will also include door prizes from Taste of Atlanta, the High Museum of Art and more.

Where/When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m Friday, Atlanta History Center.

Why go:  The Atlanta History Center's Fridays in February school programs allow students to experience the history, culture, impact and achievements of African-Americans during four time periods. On Friday, the program is "From Slave to Soldier: The African-American Experience During the Civil War." 

Pricing: $7 per student, with one chaperone admitted free per five students. Reservations required. Call 404-814-4110.

5.      CHECK OUT  BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE

Where/When: The Buckhead Theatre, 3110 Roswell Road, Atlanta, Thursday,  8 p.m.

Why go: This less traditional indie-rock band released its last album in May of last year, but continues to have a following. This show is for those who are looking for something a little “different” to listen to.
