Woodruff Holding Events on Orly Anniversary

Where/When:  , 1280 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta. June 3.

Why go: 

 On June 3, the public is invited to participate in Community Day at the Woodruff from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the following free activities:

  • An Instrument Petting Zoo with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
  • A reading of Pearl Cleage’s “Wish You Were Here” – a poem written for the anniversary – at the Alliance Theatre, which will also host acting workshops and performances of “Waiting for Balloon”
  • Admission to the High and family art workshops
  • Hands-on activities such as storytelling, puppet shows, a community art project, multi-cultural music and more by Young Audiences, including a reading of “The Story of Orly” by Barry Stewart Mann.

On the anniversary, the Woodruff will also host the Orly Commemoration Dinner at 6 p.m., a private, ticketed event in the Galleria of the Memorial Arts Building. The event will showcase the story of the Woodruff’s creation in response to the tragedy through video, performance and guest speakers.

Pricing: Free, but registration is needed.

 

"Iron Chef," Farmer's Market Style

Where/When: Peachtree Road Farmer's Market / June 1, 4 - 8 p.m.

Why go: 

In addition to the usual fruits, veggies and handmade treats available for sale, the market will play host to a competition between six hungry chefs. Think "Iron Chef," farmer's market style.

As the clock ticks the chefs will have $45 dollars to shop for ingredients. They will prepare fresh-from-the-farm plates to serve 100 lucky patrons. As the bell sounds, marking the end of their two hour culinary journey (6 p.m.), ticket holders will sample the plates and choose a winner. Tickets are a mere $5 and will be for sale beginning at 4 p.m.

Over 70 vendors will be availalbe on this special Friday night Farmer's Market.

Peachtree Hills Neighborhood Yard Sale

Where/When: Peachtree Hills neighborhood / June 2, 2012, 8:00 a.m.

Why go: Fifteen homes in Peachtree Hills will participate in the neighborhood yard sales this Saturday — a yard sale enthusiast's dream.
