Handcrafted Gifts Offered at Peachtree Road Farmers' Market

Artists' show a hit as market moves inside for final weeks

An array of hand-made crafts drew a steady crowd Saturday at the Peachtree Road Farmers' Market artists' show.

The artisans displaying their wares included the with a row of brightly colored flowering plants. "Anything with a Christmas feel to it has been doing really well," said club member Rowland Hawthorne.

The artists' show marked the move of the farmers' market inside the for its final weeks. The market ends its fall season Dec. 17, with another artsts' show.

Laura Mulliins of Buckhead, a frequent farmers' market volunteer, showed her distinctive necklaces made of wool balls. "I string all of the balls, and have a lot of fun doing it," she said. Her work is the result of an international fair trade operation in which the wool is sent from Australia to Nepal, where the wool balls are made by local women artisans.

At another booth, refugees form Bhutan showed their native baskets. Volunteer Craig Gilbert said the Bhutanese had spent 20 years in a refugee camp. They also sell their baskets at the and 5 Continents Boutique, 326 Pharr Road, Gilbert said.
