House Hunt: Brick Homes in Buckhead Loaded With Comforts

Featured houses boast impressive features

With its wide drive, which ends in a parking tab out front, 3500 Castlegate Drive NW beckons to visitors.

This traditional single-story brick home has four white columns arrayed across its facade. Inside, two more columns bracket the long foyer, whose walls bear wallpaper with damask patterns. At one end is the front door, framed by sidelight windows and a fan of glass above it. At the other end are double doors, which open onto a living room. Its broad windows offer a view of the walled garden out back.

Situated in Kingswood, No. 3500 has four bedrooms and four bathrooms (plus a half bath). It also has hardwood floors, wood-paneled walls in the family room and some wallpapered ones elsewhere. It includes multiple fireplaces — two of them functional. In the aforementioned brick-walled garden are fountains, one integrated into a low border wall of stacked stone. The price of this sprawling, large-roomed residence has been recently reduced.

This week's other featured home stands in Meadowbrook, at 469 Carolwood Lane. Like No. 3500, its primary material is brick. No. 469 is a ranch home with an integral carport to one side. A wooden privacy fence encloses the property's extensive back and side yards. Short steps separate the low front stoop from a rolling, grassy front yard.

Inside, No. 469 has hardwoods underfoot and ceiling fans overhead in many rooms. Its walls are a mix of painted brick, drywall and paneling. In the kitchen are steel appliances and tile adorning the counters/backsplash. The home's impressive master bath has a shower stall with a corner bench and a glass door, which my sister would condone (she insists, as do I, on being able to see outside the shower while using it; blame "Psycho" ...).
